Show us how to serve...

Each day at the end of worship the students work on their Lent drawings, representing the story of the day. This week we had a visit from three 5th grade students eager to share their Lenten drawings. We noticed that their drawings did not use color and told some of the same stories we have heard about Jesus.

We are continuing to notice and recognize children being helpful or "serving" each other. The teachers model recognizing a child for their helpfulness and that child puts a coin in our Lenten can. Then we ask the children whom they saw being helpful. Julian was recognized for drawing messages to two friends who had not yet received a message. Ali noticed Macy help her put the blocks away. Are your cans filling up at home? How is your child being helpful?

"Jesu, Jesu, fill us with your love, 

show us how to serve

the neighbors we have from you."

These words were written by Tom Colvin, a missionary in Ghana, to a Ghanaian folk melody. He said about the words, "I felt it simply had to be about black and white, rich and poor. I was ashamed of the wasteful affluence of my people but proud of the Gospel that transforms us into servants of one another. It is only when we who are rich learn to have the humility of the slave towards the poor of the world that we shall be able to learn from them; they have so much to teach us and share with us."


In worship we are singing Lift High the Cross. One child from each class takes a turn to hold aloft the small, brass cross. We have had many enthusiastic volunteers so, to offer more opportunity, we also sing it in our classroom at the end of the morning.

We will soon offer the opportunity to represent the worship story in clay and paint. Next week, we will read the Bible stories that tell of Jesus' last days, his prayer in the garden, his last supper with friends.

On Tuesday 22nd March, the Rocks Class will help tell the worship story of Jesus Praying in the Garden. There will be a small reception for Rocks Class families following worship on that day. I am looking for a coordinator to gather volunteers for set-up, clean-up, and bringing food. Please email Ms Buckley if you can help coordinate.
