Happy New Year Rocks Class Families!
Welcome to our new blog. We will be using this blog to communicate with you in a similar way to the weekly Whistle email, plus we can add more photos! We look forward to meeting with you next week at our Parent Teacher Conferences.
This week the Rocks Class enjoyed two different kinds of play time. Tuesday's cold temperatures kept us indoors. We reserve a large tub of Duplo Lego blocks for these occasions. During this time the children are learning how to play together and share resources. A sample script we offer the children is, "Can I use the car/block/animal?" and an appropriate response could be: "Yes" or "When I'm finished with it."
One child started building a tower for a princess. Her work inspired a second child to build a wider, reinforced tower. As his tower grew he had to stand up to continue building, saying, "Thanks!" to the teacher who helped stabilize the tower. The initial builder added her tower to his and he replied, "Thanks, Amara. This is what helping is!"
On Thursday we had our first outdoor park time together since December. Everyone wore their gloves or mittens as they raced around the playground. Many children were eager to engage the teachers in their play. Our outdoor play will change again once the snow arrives. Does your child have boots suitable for playing in the snow?
