As we approach the close of the school year, we revisit previous activities, say goodbye, and put them away. In Drama, this has meant retelling stories from earlier in the year... but with a twist.
Last week the children, instead of the three little pigs, told the story of the three little worms and the robin who wanted to eat them all up. One small group built a home from hollow blocks to protect themselves from the robin.
This week the children acted being the three dolphins who lost their mittens. Many children remember the words to the story they previously heard. Initially the teacher narrates the story, but then a few children asked to be the narrator, telling the story without even using the book.
We are practicing fine motor and real world skills in putting on mittens, getting the thumb in the right hole. A different fine motor skill is required to pinch the clothes pin open.
It takes perseverance to attach the mittens to the washing line. We can help our friends.
